| | This week I profile two star performers used to playing second fiddle at international level. The contributions of Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain and Portugal winger Nani are often overlooked due to the presence of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, respectively, in their national teams. But at the weekend both made decisive contributions for their sides. Higuain backed up the hat-trick he had scored for Real Madrid against Espanyol the previous weekend with another treble against Chile as the South American qualifying series for the 2014 World Cup got under way, while Nani bagged a brace as Portugal defeated Iceland 5-3 in their Euro 2012 qualifier. Messi and Ronaldo may make most of the headlines but these two are playing increasingly important roles.
